Edinburgh Council has taken the decision to enforce a prohibition on advertising A Boards on the Royal Mile and Rose Street from 1 July 2010. The move is aimed at making pavements safer and clutter free for pedestrians. In addition, given the City's World Heritage status the move will also remove any perceived distractions from the City's historic landscape.

Following discussions with Council officials, we understand this to be the first step in a larger strategy to enforce the Council's Tables and Chairs Policy citywide. Environmental Wardens are leading a crackdown, ensuring vendors remain within their allocated areas for tables and chairs and that in addition, A Boards are also kept within this designated area.
