Lindsays has chosen Erskine and the Scottish Association for Mental Health as the firm's charities of the year.
We remain committed to supporting charities throughout Scotland. We select two charities every year and, through our Charities Committee, organise events and fundraisers. Lindsays Charitable Trust also donates money to the chosen charities on an annual basis.
Last year Lindsays raised a significant amount of money for Maggies and the Sick Kids Friends Foundation. Having reviewed a shortlist of charities nominated by staff, we have decided to support Erskine and SAMH this year.
Founded in 1916, with bases in, amongst others, both Edinburgh and Glasgow, Erskine has provided nursing and medical care for former members of our Armed Forces through two world wars and the more recent conflicts and peace keeping initiatives of the twentieth and twenty first centuries. They aim to support the re-building of shattered lives and provide first class care to ex-Service men and women both young and old who have been injured in the line of duty. This charity has particular relevance to one member of staff whose nephew recently sustained very severe injuries in Afghanistan.
The Scottish Association for Mental Health is Scotland's leading mental health charity and has been promoting mental health for 80 years. It works to combat stigma and discrimination on mental health grounds and to promote the importance of mental health and wellbeing both for individuals and for society as a whole. Their national ambassador is Sir Chris Hoy. Ian Beattie, our Chief Operating Officer recently raised over £1000 for the charity by competing in a 24 hour running event.
We are looking forward to organising fundraising events for these charities over the coming year.
