How we've helped our clients.

Our client received a £17,500 settlement following negligent action by his surgeon who perforated his small intestine during surgery

Our client, Owen, has been awarded £17,500 in damages following a perforation to his small intestine due to negligence whilst having an operation.

How we helped our client

Owen underwent a lumbar discectomy to relieve his sciatica caused by a herniated lumbar disc and the surgery was carried out by a Neurosurgeon. During surgery, the Neurosurgeon used an instrument known as a rongeur to remove some of the fibres inside the disc, but applied too much pressure and pushed the tool too far, perforating the front side of the disc and our client’s small intestine.

We obtained medical reports from a Consultant Spinal Surgeon and a Professor of Orthopaedic Trauma who considered that Owen’s injures occurred due to negligence on the part of the Neurosurgeon.
Owen had been expected to recover from the surgery within four to six weeks, however his recovery was prolonged, and his symptoms worsened. Owen’s case was successfully settled in the sum of £17,500.

Owen said:

I was very happy with the help and advice on offer from Lindsays, in particular the tireless extra work involved in my case by Sarah. No stone was left un-turned in the pursuit of a successful outcome. I would recommend Lindsays to anyone who is in the unfortunate situation of having suffered medical negligence.

If you have suffered from medical negligence in the last three years out expert medical negligence team can help you.
