We helped our client achieve settlement after she sustained burns to her face as a result of using prescription cream given to her by her GP
Our client suffers from psoriasis, a drying skin condition, and during an appointment with her local GP she was prescribed a cream to help with the symptoms. She asked her GP on two occasions whether the cream was suitable to use on her face and they advised that it was, in small quantities.
She went home and that night had a shower, and thereafter applied the cream as instructed. The following morning, our client woke up and felt a burning sensation on her face. She had developed purple burn-like marks on her face.
After attending hospital she was advised that she shouldn’t have used the cream on her face and that the marks may be permanent. Our client researched the product and realised the cream was only to be left overnight if under the supervision of a doctor or nurse.
We claimed against the GP surgery and an investigation was carried out by their claims handlers. A copy of our client’s GP and hospital records were obtained and sent onto the third party insurers. A settlement offer was then made and our client accepted.
