Ronald suffered a respiratory and psychiatric injury as a result of defective equipment being used during a parachute jump

Ronald was in the Territorial Army and had to take part in a training exercise involving a parachute jump. During the jump part of Ronald’s equipment got tangled with the static line and so his parachute did not open. He ended up suspended underneath the aeroplane for over half an hour until he could be rescued and as a result, suffered respiratory and psychiatric injury.

How we helped Ronald

We took over Ronald’s case after the first solicitor he consulted about the accident abandoned the claim after the Ministry of Defence (MOD) denied liability. We immediately raised Court proceedings and identified, and arranged for a parachuting expert to investigate his accident. He provided a report identifying an item of defective equipment which got tangled with the static line. We then progressed the Court action until it settled shortly before the final hearing. The case revealed that Ronald’s accident was the first of its type anywhere. As a result, the equipment was changed by the MOD and made parachuting safer.

Ronald said;

I was grateful to Lindsays, for taking my case on especially as the first solicitor that I instructed abandoned the case after the MOD denied liability for my claim. I was impressed with the way they identified the leading parachuting expert in the UK and the way in which they recovered all the necessary papers from the MOD (despite opposition) so they could progress my case to a settlement. I was happy with the compensation I received and I would recommend Lindsays to anyone who has been the victim of an accident in the forces
