Currently, in the United States, there are thousands of claims against Johnson & Johnson relating to their talc-based products allegedly causing ovarian cancer in numerous women. As we reported earlier this year, Johnson & Johnson were ordered to pay £3.6bn in damages to 22 women who alleged that the talc products led to them developing ovarian cancer – a decision which Johnson & Johnson are appealing.

It has now been reported that Pharmaceutical company, Johnson & Johnson were aware for decades of the presence of asbestos tainting in their products prior to multiple legal actions being raised against the company.

An investigation carried out by Reuters found documents showing that Johnson & Johnson had known that there were trace amounts of asbestos in their products. The documents showed that between 1971 and 2000 internal tests carried out within the company had shown very small amounts of asbestos in its talc-related products. These results were never shown to regulators.

Following this investigation, the market value of the company decreased by 10%.
