Professional experience
Graeme is a Consultant in the Commercial Property group and leads the Property team in our Glasgow office. A highly experienced commercial property practitioner, Graeme acts for a number of pension funds, institutions and developers on their real estate investments in Scotland. His clients include Merchant Navy Pension Funds, ExxonMobil Inc and BRB Residuary. He also advises Liberty International on the continuing development of the Braehead scheme on the outskirts of Glasgow lying to the west of the Braehead shopping centre.
In addition to his involvement in site acquisition assembly and disposal, Graeme has handled a number of complex servicing and access issues and is able to advise clients on planning law matters.
Credential highlights
- Lead partner in the development of the Braehead Centre, which involves 1.06 million square-feet of retail development land. This is one of the most complicated developments to have been carried out in Scotland and involves strategic planning including the development of a master plan, Section 75 Agreements, general planning advice and various non-planning agreements to secure the success of the site without undue risk to the client.
- Lead partner in the property aspects of the privatisation of British Rail including the division of the property portfolio of railway properties between British Railways Board and Railtrack. He continues to act for BRB Residuary Limited the company formed to deal with the non operational former railway properties.
- Significant experience in dealing with complex lease structures, requiring ground leases and interposed leases, to meet client’s requirements.
- Land development for large scale, multi stakeholder developments including negotiating the terms of missives for exclusivity and options deals on land.
