Professional experience

Iain is the Head of our Employment team and has long-standing experience in dealing with all areas of employment law. He advises employers and senior executives on employment matters, and has particular expertise in Tribunals.

Iain has been involved in Employment Law since unfair dismissal was first introduced. His clients range from large multinational PLC’s to medium sized and small companies and he has acted for both employer and employee in cases involving unfair dismissal, all types of discriminatory complaints and equal pay disputes. He has represented commercial clients in Employment Tribunals in Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland and has also represented employers at mediation hearings of Employment Law disputes.

Iain is accredited as a specialist in Employment Law by the Law Society of Scotland. He is also a Member of the Law Society of Scotland’s Employment Law Committee and acts as a part-time Employment Judge. Iain is recognised by the Chambers and Partners 2011 directory as a 'Leader in his Field'. He is widely recognised and one of the leading employment lawyers in Scotland.

• Advising on the employment aspects of the closure of a manufacturing site and its transfer to another EU country.
• Advising another manufacturing company on redundancies and the transfer of staff following the closure of a department.
• Advising a company with in excess of 1000 employees on the problems associated with the use of temporary staff.
• Drafting policies to deal with equal opportunities and family friendly matters.
• Drafting Service Contracts for Senior Executives and advising on restrictive covenants to take effect post termination.
• Advising in relation to pay grades following equal pay reviews.
