Professional experience
Karen is an Associate in our family law team based at our North Berwick office. She advises clients on all aspects of family law including divorce, separation, protection from abuse, child related issues such as residence, contact, parental rights and responsibilities and relocation cases. She has considerable experience in adoption and guardianship cases.
Karen is a Curator ad litem and Reporting Officer and is a member of Edinburgh Sheriff Court’s panel of solicitors. She is regularly appointed to represent children’s interests in adoption, permanence orders, applications for parental rights by local authorities and applications under the Human Embryo and Fertilisation legislation. She is also appointed regularly to represent the interests of incapacitated adults in Sheriff Court cases. She is a legal representative for children and relevant persons at Children’s hearings in Edinburgh, Dalkeith and Tranent.

- Successful application to enable a father to take his children abroad on a foreign family holiday during school term time
- Successful application to Sheriff Court for interdicts granted against violent/harassing former partners with powers of arrest being granted
- Numerous guardianship applications granted at Sheriff Courts in respect of adults who are incapacitated under the Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act 2000
- Enforcing and collecting payment of financial provision in separation agreements against defaulting former partners
- Successfully negotiating the terms of numerous separation agreements and obtaining and implementing pension share orders for clients.
