Professional experience
Niall Hassard, is a Solicitor in Lindsays’ Licensing and Dispute Resolution & Litigation Teams. Niall joined Lindsays in 2008 and embarked upon a two year specialised Litigation Traineeship. Niall appeared regularly in the Sheriff Court and he had a varied Court of Session caseload. During the second year of his traineeship he sought to become involved with the Licensing Team and in March 2010 joined the team for the remainder of his traineeship. Licensing forms the majority of his caseload at present and he regularly represents clients at Licensing Boards across Scotland. However, Niall also retains a keen interest in Litigation and in particular, the law of landlord and tenant.
Within the Licensing Team Niall’s litigation experience is put to good use, and he is often instructed in licensing appeals to the Sheriff Court and Court of Session.
Niall advises clients on applications under the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982 including taxi, late hours catering and HMO licensing together with all manner of applications, variations and reviews under the Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005.
Before joining Lindsays Niall had worked in the licensed trade for over five years, including four and half years as part of a pub management team for Mitchells and Bulters. He brings enthusiasm coupled with pragmatism, wishing to gain an insight into the operation a clients business to understand a client’s goals. Always keen to put a face to a name Niall endeavours to meet clients and this personal approach is reflected in his good working relations with clients.
