Education law is a complex and evolving area of law in Scotland. We can guide you through the legal framework and help you protect your child’s best interests.
There are a number of duties placed on education authorities to ensure children’s educational needs are met. These duties are set out in the Education (Additional Support for Learning) (Scotland) Act 2004 as amended by the Education (Additional Support for Learning) (Scotland) Act 2009.
Interpreting those duties and what it can mean for your child and their education can sometimes be challenging. For example, your child may be struggling at school and need extra help. We can advise you about what their school must do to ensure that they get that extra support.
Or it may be that you would like your child to attend a particular school – we can advise how to make a request to the education authority for your child to attend that school. We can also advise you how to challenge a refusal of a placing request.
