A career in marketing: Megan’s professional development

Megan Wilson joined Lindsays as a Marketing Assistant and was promoted to Marketing Executive just over a year later. The firm is now supporting her in undertaking Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) training as the next step in her professional development.

Joining Lindsays

After graduating from university, I went to work in finance but decided it wasn’t for me. I was keen to get into marketing and applied for the Marketing Assistant role at Lindsays in 2023. Marketing roles can be difficult to secure without previous experience, so I felt lucky to get the job.

Gaining more responsibility

Initially, I was helping with events, mostly in a support role. Then in October 2024, I was promoted to Marketing Executive and started leading on more projects.

I meet regularly with Lindsays’ Charity team to discuss how we can develop their marketing and exposure. Events continue to be a key focus for me, and I recently worked with a colleague to organise three events for the team in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Perth. Around 70 different organisations were involved, which was wonderful.

CIM qualifications

At my initial interview, I asked about career development and whether Lindsays supported it. I didn’t want to jump straight into it as soon as I joined the firm since there was so much going on, but last year it seemed like the right time to start the CIM qualifications.

I spoke to my Director about it, she put the case to Management, and the firm agreed to fund it. The course is self-study, and I do it in my own time.

The culture at Lindsays

My first job was at a large international corporate, and I would notice that people didn’t really say hello in the lift or the corridor. But at Lindsays, everyone always chats and says hello. In our team, we work with everyone across all the offices, so we do get to know a lot of people, but it’s the same wherever you work in the firm.

I just really enjoy working here – I never think that I don’t want to go to work today!

Work-life balance

I usually work in the office two or three days a week and I generally work 9 to 5, but I know that if I need an early start or early finish, my manager and team will try to accommodate that.

I sometimes hear from people in other companies about how they get emails on holiday or worry about things not getting picked up when they’re away, but I haven’t found that here at all. We’re all very supportive of each other in our team.
