David Hutchison

David is a Partner in the Employment team and is a Law Society of Scotland Accredited Specialist in Employment Law. He was one of the first solicitors in Scotland to be certified in equality, diversity and inclusion.

He advises both employers and employees on a wide range of contentious and non-contentious employment matters, providing practical, commercially focused advice tailored to each client's circumstances and objectives. His experience includes unfair dismissal, discrimination, redundancy, settlement agreements, whistleblowing, unlawful deduction of wages and breach of contract claims. David has a particular specialism in group employment litigation and has been involved in some of the largest equal pay, employment status and holiday pay claims.

David is an experienced advocate who regularly represents clients before Employment Tribunals in Scotland and England, as well as the Employment Appeal Tribunal in Edinburgh. He is known for delivering clear, strategic guidance and robust representation throughout the course of a dispute.

Alongside his employment law practice, David has considerable experience in commercial litigation. He acts for both pursuers and defenders in a broad range of disputes, advising clients from the earliest stages of a claim through to litigation and representing them in Sheriff Courts across Scotland.

In addition to his work with clients, David is committed to supporting the next generation of legal professionals. He is a tutor at the University of Strathclyde, where he provides employment law teaching and insight to postgraduate students undertaking the Diploma in Legal Practice. He is a committee member of the Employment Law Group and has spoken at several conferences.

David is also a member of the Employment Lawyers Association.

David obtained his Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Glasgow Graduate School of Law. He also holds an MSc in Mediation and Conflict Resolution from the University of Strathclyde.
