Kathleen offers knowledgeable and determined support to clients pursuing personal injury and negligence claims

Kathleen Willis is a Senior Associate in our Personal Injury team.

Kathleen has worked exclusively in personal injury and clinical negligence since qualifying as a Solicitor in 2017 and has over 10 years’ experience of personal injury litigation. 

During that time, she has handled a diverse case load acting for clients in relation to road traffic accidents, accidents at work, and public liability claims. Kathleen has also gained considerable experience in dealing with industrial disease claims, having represented clients in claims arising from exposure to vibration tools, industrial deafness, and employment-related respiratory conditions. 

Kathleen predominantly handles complex clinical negligence claims arising from issues including negligent surgery, delayed diagnosis, and hospital-acquired infections. She has experience in handling negligence arising from elective procedures across the fields of plastic surgery, dentistry, and ophthalmology, and has also represented families in fatal claims arising from clinical negligence. 

More recently, Kathleen has gained experience in public inquiry work, representing the interests of a Core Participant Group in the ongoing Scottish COVID-19 Inquiry. 

Kathleen has a strong commitment to training and mentoring fellow peers and is responsible for the supervision of junior solicitors and paralegals in the team. She also mentors on the University of Strathclyde’s Diploma in Legal Practice.

Highlights

  • Scottish agent in the All-Scotland personal injury action arising out of the 2013 Glasgow Clutha Helicopter Crash. Kathleen was involved in preparing the case for jury trial and ultimately negotiating damages of twice the defender’s original offer. 
  • Securing a £200,000 settlement for a client who suffered a serious shoulder injury in a road traffic accident. 
  • Achieving damages of £125,000 for a client who developed Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome following exposure to vibration tools as a road worker.
  • Obtaining an award of £72,000 for a scaffolder who was originally offered £3,500 in a slip/trip accident at work
  • Securing a £90,000 settlement for a client who was immune-compromised following a road traffic accident. 
  • Obtaining £40,000 in ‘loss of society’ awards for sisters who lost their brother due to a delayed cancer diagnosis.
