In a culture of increasing regulation and scrutiny, professionals are under the spotlight like never before. It is, of course, vital that those offering care to the public follow their vocation with the upmost care and diligence. Yet, as the recent controversial case of Dr Bawa-Garba demonstrates, busy professionals can come under enormous pressure that sometimes is not of their making.
We recently acted for an experienced pharmacist whose actions were investigated by the General Pharmaceutical Council. In that case, flowing from events that were beyond our client’s control, an extensive and lengthy investigation was undertaken and our client’s Fitness to Practice was questioned. On our client’s behalf we tested the evidence that had been gathered; provided a full explanation of the circumstances that had arisen; addressed concerns raised in respect of the Misuse of Drugs Regulations and also pointed out certain discrepancies in guidance provided to the profession that did not help the situation.
Our client was delighted when the decision was made to close the investigation without any further action. By getting in touch with us at an early stage, their situation was well-managed and the evidence tested with forensic rigour.
